Dismantling Racism Training
(updated September 13, 2006)
Note: this training is full, but we can add you to a list to receive notice about future trainings.
The Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) is offering a two-day Dismantling Racism (DR) Training following the Vancouver conference. We are sponsoring this training as part of our ongoing work to understand and dismantle racism within our Coalition, and to encourage our members and others in the community food security movement to engage in DR work in their own organizations and communities. We encourage people working to build a more just food system to attend, and we are offering registration and travel scholarships to support participation in the training (see details below).
The Dismantling Racism Training is designed to help participants proactively understand and address racism, both in their organization and in the community where the organization is working. It is a very powerful experience that leads to a shared understanding of how racism impacts people and institutions, and builds a strong foundation for working together to end racism and injustice.
Trainers and Agenda: The training will be led by Bree Carlson and Suzanne Plihcik of dismantling Racism Works, who have been working with CFSC over the past year. More information about the DR process and training agenda is available on their website at http://www.dismantlingracism.org/process.html.
Timing and Location: The training will be held Wednesday, October 11 from 9:30-6:30 and Thursday, October 12 from 8:30-5:00 (note that this overlaps with the end of the annual conference). It will be at St. Andrew's Wesley Church, just across the street from the main conference site and hotel.
Registration: CFSC is charging a subsidized registration fee of $110 to cover site and food costs.
The training is full, but we can add you to a list to
receive notice about future trainings. offered by CFSC or our partners. (See contact info below)
Scholarships: The USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) Community Outreach & Assistance Partnership Program
has generously offered CFSC a grant to support scholarships for the training. However, the deadline
has passed and CFSC is not accepting more applications, due to the large number already received.
For more information, please contact Kai Siedenburg at (831) 429-8202 or kai@foodsecurity.org or Heather Fenney at (310) 822-5410 or heather@foodsecurity.org.

Passports are recommended but not required for American citizens to enter into Canada.
If you do not have a passport, an original or certified copy of a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID are required. A drivers license by itself is not sufficient identification. For other nationalities, please check with the appropriate consulate.
