Application Deadline: August 13
Award Notification: August 25
The Scholarship and Volunteer application deadline was August 13. We had over 300 applications and are not accepting any further requests for assistance at this time.
CFSC makes it a priority to keep our conferences affordable and to offer scholarships and volunteer positions to make the event more accessible. Most scholarships and all volunteer positions cover the costs of conference registration only.
We sent out award notifications on August 25. If you applied and have not yet received notification, contact Emily Becker. Please do not register until you hear from us. If you are not awarded a scholarship, you will still be able to register at the discounted early registration rate.
Scholarships
Priority for scholarships will be given to limited resource farmers/producers, youth and people working in low-income areas or communities of color. Representation from all regions of the country will also be taken into consideration.
Most scholarship recipients will need to cover their own travel and lodging. Ten scholarships for full registration plus up to $250 for travel costs are available for community-based organizations, funded by the Community Food Projects Program. If your organization meets the below criteria, please let us know in the final question of the survey.
Criteria for Travel Awards:
Community-based groups actively working on food system issues in low-income communities and communities of color.
Preference for organizations led and staffed primarily by people from the community.
Preference for groups with limited funding and resources (about $100K or less budget), including all-volunteer groups, although dedicated low-income volunteers for organizations with larger budgets also will be considered.
Scholarships will be available to staff or dedicated volunteers who could not afford to attend the conference on their own.
Volunteer Positions
There are a small number of volunteer positions available. In exchange for 12 hours of work during the conference, volunteers will be able to attend the conference for free.
If you are offered a volunteer position, you will sign up for various tasks during the conference. Tasks may include: checking in attendees, monitoring workshops & sessions, set up and clean up, assisting with receptions, selling publications, etc.
You can also raise funds for your trip by requesting friends, family, coworkers, and others to sponsor you. A fundraising guide with additional information will be posted here soon.
