The San Francisco Bay Area has been a hotbed of food activism since at least the 60s. In this kick-off to the conference, we will hear from long-time food and farm leaders about the successes and remaining challenges for the food security movement in the Bay Area.

Join global and local leaders of the food sovereignty movement to hear how communities around the world are reclaiming their food systems. The ceremony will honor grassroots leaders of the movement, and former members of the Black Panther Party will address the roots of the food justice movement in the US. At the lively Food Sovereignty Fair, speak with the honorees, meet authors of new books on the issue, and learn about organizations working for food system equity. Demystifying and Reclaiming the Food and Farm Bill

Attendees will discuss local needs and select shared short-term targets. All plenary participants will be invited to participate in a timely Food and Farm Bill action.

Where will the food movement be in 2021? Yesterday’s news? Even more powerful? Still dealing with the same challenges? Or having made some substantial progress? In this closing plenary, we will ask today’s and tomorrow’s leaders to articulate their answers to this question in artistic terms. Conference attendees will then engage in an interactive discussion about how to make these visions a reality.
