Food Justice Film Festival

The Food Justice Film Festival features documentary films from and about the food movement across California and around the world. Filmmakers will be on hand to introduce their films and answer questions about their work.

Food Sovereignty Prize Award Ceremony & Food Sovereignty Fair

The Third Annual Food Sovereignty Prize will honor the roots of the Food Justice movement. By celebrating the deep, historical links between these two currents in our food movement—one urban with consumer-based demands, the other rural and agrarian based—we seek to re-establish the foundations for a food movement powerful enough to transform our food system.
Hunger Banquet: An Interfaith Call to Action

Experience the inequities of food resources in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not all guests will leave with a full stomach, but all will gain a new perspective on the root causes of hunger and feel motivated to do something about it. Join the local Kitchen Table Talks food and politics community that has gathered monthly in San Francisco for over two years as they discuss current work on Farm Bill organizing and citizen action. National, statewide and local advocates will lay down the latest on the current political climate, how changes to the farm bill affect urban life, and how average citizens can make a difference. We ask for a $10 donation in advance and space is limited. Please go to Brown Paper Tickets to reserve your seat at this intimate conversation. Wine and light local snacks catered by Bi-Rite Market included. An optional guided Mission bar crawl will follow.

Farmer Voices from Across the Country: Fighting for Justice and Fairness on the Farm
This family farmer panel features George Naylor, Iowa corn farmer whose story is told in Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma; Montana farmer Dena Hoff, Via Campesina North America co-chair; dairy farmer Joel Greeno, who led the tractor-cade during the Madison protests, and Bob St. Peter, who organizes the landless in Maine. These farm leaders will share stories about their work in their communities, nationally with National Family Farm Coalition, and internationally with La Via Campesina, for food sovereignty and a sustainable, fair food system.
Reel Food: Films Seeding Change

Reel Food is a one day convening that will bring together nonfiction media-makers telling powerful stories about food and agriculture with non-profits and funders working for healthy communities. This event is an opportunity for organizations to explore the ways a select group of documentary films and innovative social media tools can advance your efforts for a sustainable and just food system.
Reel Food will be held on Wednesday November 9, following the close of the CFSC conference. Participation is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending or want to learn more, please contact Anna Lee at Working Films. CFSC and Working Films are also collaborating to present a film screening event during the CFSC conference. Check the conference page soon for updates.
