Scholarships

CFSC makes it a priority to keep our conferences affordable and to offer scholarships and volunteer positions to make the event more accessible.  Most scholarships and all volunteer positions cover the costs of conference registration only.

Application Deadline: August 26

The scholarship application deadline has now passed. We are no longer accepting applications. Notification to applicants was emailed on September 16 – if you applied but did not receive an email notification, please contact erica@foodsecurity.org.

Travel Funding

Most scholarships will cover the main conference registration only, not including pre-conference events.  There may be some travel assistance awards available, but it will not be enough to cover all of your travel. Please be prepared to seek alternate funds to cover your travel and lodging.

Additional Funding Sources

You can also raise funds for your trip by requesting friends, family, coworkers, and others to sponsor you. Read our fundraising guide for additional information about how to find funding for the conference.

About Our Scholarships

Priority for scholarships will be given to people of color, people working in communities of color or low-income communities, youth, limited resource farmers/producers, food chain workers and new community leaders. Representation from all regions of the country will also be taken into consideration.

Volunteer Positions

There are a small number of volunteer positions available.  In exchange for 12 hours of work during the conference, volunteers will be able to attend the conference for free. People who reside in the Bay Area will be given priority for volunteer positions.

If you are offered a volunteer position, you will sign up for various tasks during the conference.  Tasks may include: checking in attendees, monitoring workshops & sessions, set up and clean up, assisting with receptions, selling publications, etc.
